Who are we?
About me
Hi, my name’s Ben and I’m the principal teacher here at New Forest English. I received my CertTESOL level four certificate from St. Giles college, London in 2009 and I have been teaching English ever since.
I spent around 10 years teaching in Taiwan so I am very familiar with a lot of the problems Chinese speakers face when acquiring English. I have developed my own approaches to teaching that I hope can aid in resolving these issues.
My Teaching Philosophy
Wherever possible I prefer to take a communication based approach to helping people improve their English skills. I like my students to do most of the talking in class and only interject when necessary with corrections and suggestions.
I encourage English learners to adopt a “现学现卖“ attitude and utilise new vocabulary and sentence structures as soon and as often as possible to really internalise them. In my experience, this is a very effective approach to organically and authentically acquiring a new language.
Areas Of Specialisation
Over the years, I’ve worked with learners of all ages and abilities. My areas of expertise include:
- IELTS preparation
- English for business
- General conversation
- English for children of all ages
